Today my assignments were the making of the cheese plate, various crackers, grapes, wines and making the candied yams. I got off easy. One Pinot Gris, one Muscato, Middlefield Swiss (local), Cabot Farmhouse white cheddar(VT), Longhorn Cheddar (WI), Mild cheddar(generic), and red seedless grapes. The yams are prepped and will go in after wife takes turkey out of oven. I’ve hardly touched anything all morning and I’m starved. One small cinnamon roll and a few cheese and crackers is all I’ve had. We are cooking for family this year and I have over an hour to wait. The food smells and looks real good, sometimes waiting really sucks. I’ve been discouraged from opening the wine early.

Any special plans today? This is first time in 6 years that we haven’t eaten Thanksgiving elsewhere.

We’re at my Mom’s house with the kids for the day. It’s a low key event, for which I am grateful. It’s only 40 minutes away on rural roads- a traffic jam was three cars at a stop sign. We had a fire on the patio while the kids played outside, and now I’m inside drinking red wine while the kids watch the parade. It’s been a good day. Open the wine! It’s the one day a year where day drinking is not only tolerated, it’s encouraged. :-)
